Greetings fellow earthlings, it's about that time again for another CR update and this time i've not come empty handed.

February has been crazy busy and Community Recordings has a bunch of great music projects in the works for the next few months. Big thanks to everyone for downloading Cowbells For Haiti Vol.1, it is now the third most downloaded CR album to date. And keep in mind this series is just getting started. I have quite a roster of producers lined up for future volumes. I must say though, i'm really impressed with the generosity on behalf of the producers i've spoken to thus far. By the summer we should be well into Vol.3 and starting to see some real money being donated to Haiti. 100% of all the proceeds are being donated to Wycelf Jean's Haiti Foundation, www.yele.org

So let's talk nu-disco for a second. Since coming up with the alias Zoe's Raygun i've been working tirelessly to define its sound. Everyone knows i have a thing for spacey music and it's clearly obvious that i like to infuse that authentic sci-fi feel into Zoe's sound. Science Fiction & The Erotic is a perfect example of this as well as a few other pieces. But just so we are all on the same page, i'm not looking to load up CR's discography with a bunch of spacey disco releases. I still spend alot of time working on latin percussion, and really want to keep Community Recordings as an eclectic label covering a variety of genres. So rather then continuing to release all of Zoe's music on CR i've decided to branch off and create a sub-label called "HotBox" to specialize in the deep-dubby-disco sound.

Debut release is scheduled for end of March:

Since the devastating earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12th 2010, many organizations from around the world have put together relief efforts to raise money to help the unfortunate Haitian communities affected by this catastrophic event . Community Recordings has decided to contribute to the cause by launching a series of releases dedicated to raising money for Haiti. "Cowbells For Haiti Vol.1" is the first of an ongoing compilation series consisting of organic and percussive driven songs. Volume 1 features selected works from Community Recordings' own Jon Nedza/Zoe's Raygun. Future volumes will consist of music from various artists. More information on Volume 2 will be released in the next couple of weeks.

100% of all proceeds from this release are being donated to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund, founded by Haitian native Wyclef Jean. For more information, go to: www.yele.org

Pre-release is available at: www.communityrecordings.com. This release will also available Friday, Feb 19th at Beatport and Juno Download.

As many of you know, Haiti was already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere before the earthquake hit. It is unthinkable what kind of challenges they face to rebuild their country. Please take a moment to appreciate the things that you have and then take a moment to think about what you can contribute to a community that has lost everything.

Sincerely,

Jon Nedza

Hola Hermanos y Hermanas! Hope 2010 is treating everybody well. Since the relaunch of Community Recordings things have really been on the up and up. Lot's of new music in the works as well as some old stuff coming back in the mix. The latest and greatest from CR's own Zoe's Raygun is a spacetastic release "Science Fiction & The Erotic". This EP comes straight out of a sci-fi movie with lasers, photons and all the usual Zoe efx. Sunset City is back in the mix again as well with a heavy single titled "The Moody Malcontent". Soft and lush but hard an edgy is the only way to describe this release. Have a listen and you'll see what i mean.

Thanks for all the submissions as well, i've not had a chance to listen to everything in it's entirety yet but i'm planning to this weekend. Community Recordings has been back up for about 5 weeks now and i have to admit i'm blown away by the support it's receiving both through this website and with the online shops we use such as Beatport and Juno. It's great to be back in the studio full-time and it's equally great to see that you guys are really enjoying the music and wanting more. Well you need not say another word because i've got some wicked music coming up in the release schedule. February i'll be releasing the last of the CR back catalog and March is loaded with fresh new tracks that i know you are gonna dig. Been going back to my percussive roots lately so expect some slammin drum tracks as well as some smokin deep tunes. And if sales keep going the way they are going then we will be pressing up vinyl before the end of the summer which i know alot of us would like to see.

That's all for now, won't be sending out any promos until i've got the last of the new releases sorted and ready for upload. Most likely towards the end of the month. I've also adjusted the download prices to accommodate for the hard financial times most of us are facing. $1.39 for 320MP3's and $1.79 for Wavs, and reduced prices on whole albums. Thanks again for your support and enjoy the savings!

well it's back to the studio amigos! - Jon

After more then a 4 year hiatus, Community Recordings is back with a brand new online music label. 2010 looks to be a great year in Communityland, i've got lots of new music projects in the works for you as well as some new artists to serve up some hot trax! We are looking for more music to sign and will be covering alot of musical ground here, from heavy disco to deep funk, reggaeton to balearic and chillout, latin and tribal music as well as some techno and house so if you have music you would like to submit please feel free to do so and we'll give it an honest review.

Over the years i've been asked to do percussion by a bunch of producers so i've decided to start putting together a series of sample packs containing all varieties of percussion instruments. Cowbells, Congas, Timbales, Shakers, Cuicas, Cajons etc... The series is call More Por Favor! The first sample pack is More Cowbell Por Favor! Vol.1. These sampes are all bpm synced, pre-mastered wav files ready to drop on your tracks and they are royalty free! I also have some other sample packs in the works containing non-percussive instuments but i will tell you more about that after the new year. Aside from putting some of my old releases on the site i've launched a couple new alias to cover some of the different music genres we'll be focusing on. Sunset City is an alias that i'll be using to deliver some proper Balearic and Chillout tunes. Zoe's Raygun however will be my main alias, heavy, edgy and spaced out grooves is what you should expect.

As for the new site, have a look around i think you'll find it very easy to navigate. Propaganda Labs did a fantastic job bringing my vision to life. There were many hurdles along the way but we managed to sort them out and pull it off. The idea behind building an online store/label for Community Recordings was to really build a model for how a small independent label can operate. I feel that labels need to control of there music from start to finish. Online distributors do a great job of providing new music to the masses, however i think the future for quality and devoted producers/labels is about selling direct to the public and eliminating middlemen. But at the end of the day i just hope that Community Recordings becomes a valuable tool for you to find great music.

Well thats it for now, enjoy the new site and i'll keep you up to date with with the new releases.

Cheers!!
Jon@Community

ps - By the way, Community Recordings is celebrating it's 10th birthday at the turn of the new year!! 10 freakin' years old!!
